Rainbow Ribbon Schools
Community Allies of Rainbow Youth - or CARY - is recognizing seven HCPSS schools with Rainbow Ribbon School Awards for their achievements in creating LGBTQIA+ affirming and inclusive school environments. The Rainbow Ribbon Schools for 2023-2024 are Burleigh Manor Middle School, Clarksville Elementary School, Dayton Oaks Elementary School, Phelps Luck Elementary School, and Reservoir High School. These schools became a Rainbow Ribbon School by meeting all the following criteria:
Inclusive curriculum and instruction in which LGBTQIA+ identities are affirmed, and LGBTQIA+ people’s contributions are highlighted, across all content areas
Establish a Rainbow Representative in the school
Offer and promote a LGBTQIA+ affinity group
Work towards being free from bias-based bullying, harassment, and discrimination of LGBTQIA+ students
LGBTQIA+ staff and allies are visible in the school community
All school staff receive mandatory training on building an affirming and inclusive environment
At least one of the following criteria: all-gender restroom(s), student interactions, visual affirmations, and school-wide celebration
CARY commends these schools for their work in affirming and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community at their school and looks forward to continued excellence.
2022 - 2023 School Year Awards

The Rainbow Ribbon Schools for 2022-2023 are Bollman Bridge Elementary School, Cedar Lane Center, Hammond High School, Mount Hebron High School, Mount View Middle School, Patapsco Middle School, and Wilde Lake High School. These schools became a Rainbow Ribbon School by meeting all the following criteria:
Inclusive curriculum and instruction in which LGBTQIA+ identities are affirmed, and LGBTQIA+ people’s contributions are highlighted, across all content areas

Rainbow Stripe Schools
CARY is also recognizing seven HCPSS schools with Stripe Recognition Awards for their achievements in progressing towards the Rainbow Ribbon School designation. Congratulations to Atholton High School, Burleigh Manor Middle School, Dayton Oaks Elementary School, Ducketts Lane Elementary School, Lake Elkhorn Middle School, Reservoir High School, and River Hill High School for earning stripes for the 2022-2023 school year. A stripe is earned for each criteria that is met and CARY looks forward to these school continuing to progress and earning the Rainbow Ribbon.

For the 2021-2022 school year Community Allies of Rainbow Youth recognized four HCPSS schools with Stripe Recognition Awards for their achievements in progressing towards the Rainbow Ribbon School designation. Congratulations to Clarksville Middle School, Mount Hebron High School, Mount View Middle School, and Wilde Lake High School for earning stripes for the 2022-2023 school year. A stripe is earned for each criteria that is met and CARY looks forward to these school continuing to progress and earning the Rainbow Ribbon.
